Politico reports that George Stephanopoulos, anchor of “This Week” on ABC News, will take over as co-host of “Good Morning America” beginning Monday, December 14. He steps in for Diane Sawyer who is leaving to anchor ABC World News Tonight.

Mr. Stephanopoulos will remain as the anchor of “This Week,” the popular Sunday morning political show that has been growing in stature since he took over, for a short period. There is no word yet on his replacement, although ABC political correspondent Jake Tapper’s name is being bounced about.

As many Arkansans will remember Mr. Stephanopoulos lived in Little Rock during the 1992 presidential campaign working as a senior strategist. He went on to serve in a senior strategy role in The White House before heading to ABC. He begins his book, “All Too Human,” with some memories from here.

I had the privilege to sit down with him for a brief time in January when I was in Washington covering the Inauguration.

And speaking of Clinton operatives back in town, two evenings ago James Carville, who worked for Mr. Clinton, and Mary Matalin, who did not, were in town giving the Kumpuris Lecture at the Clinton Center. Absolutely terrific event.

Juju Chang evidently works well with him. She’ll be doing the news on GMA. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/abc/juju_chang_to_be_named_good_morning_america_news_anchor_145199.asp
