Jason Tolbert Departs HuckPAC

Right-of-center blogaholic Jason Tolbert resigned his post as Arkansas coordinator for Mike Huckabee’s political action committee today. Mr. Tolbert gives us a little insight into his rationale on his blog, “The Tolbert Report,” and notes that the events surrounding Maurice Clemmons played a role.

It’s got to be a tough day for him, Mr. Tolbert, I mean. He probably has the same feeling I did when I realized that professional wrestling was fake.

“The Tolbert Report” is terrific, particularly for those of you interested in what’s happening with the state GOP. It’s also gotten funnier as of late. (See his post on the Drew PrittKim Hendren debate yesterday at UALR.)

Mr. Huckabee is scheduled to speak at the Clinton School of Public Service on December 14th, for what it’s worth.

Huck is finished as a presidential candidate. He was not in great shape before, but could have played a critical role in helping distill the field in Iowa. But now, he is pretty done – this is the GOP after all. The most interesting is what this means for the GOP field in 2012. ON the one hand, if Palin runs, it helps her – cause he could have / would have taken away votes from her in Iowa. If I were Palin, I’d go to Iowa then SC and skip NH. It also hurts Romney – I do not think Romney can win Iowa, period, and with Huck in, he could have said, oh this guy has too much of an advantage so I am gonna skip and the press would have sort of bought that. Now, what does he do? Someone said, come out against ethanol, and use that for an explanation for skipping Iowa. Thats fine and dandy, but he ran once and did not take that position, what changed his mind?! Last I checked he tried to buy the straw poll there last time. The Palin and Romney may be obvious, but this may impact down the line too… e.g., does another religious conservative try to run and take up some space in Iowa? What does this do to Pawlenty? In a scenario where no one else runs, and Paliln wins Iowa, is it possible for Pawlenty to come in with a strong second place showing and then go to NH to battle Romney, come in second there, and have an opening for SC (which by current scenarios would be Palin’s to lose, if its a Palin, Romney, Pawlenty list of A candidates).

  2. I admire Tolbert, though I don’t always agree with him politically. I know it was a tough decision for him.

That Pritt/Hendren post WAS pretty entertaining. Even moreso, the comments afterward, including some from Drew “I Have a Real Job” Pritt. Thanks for the tip!

And this: Huckabee has PR problems but Palin doesn’t? Puh!
