Thanks to news that appeared on The Think Tank first, Arkansas News columnist John Brummett had something to write today. Yes, it’s on the story of a young Arkie named Tyler Denton who is contemplating a run for Lt. Governor in 2010, a position occupied by Lt. Gov. Bill Halter, also a Democrat.

In Mr. Brumett’s column he peddles, as expected, a silly, nonsensical theory that Mr. Denton’s candidacy signals a hatred towards Mr. Halter in Clinton-land.

I have no idea with whom Mr. Brummett spoke (he called me and left me a voicemail message that concluded, “I want to know why all of these Clinton people hate Bill Halter”), but he’s way off base. And, it would seem, that he walked into the column with his conclusion already formulated.

As Max Brantley notes this morning on the Arkansas Times blog, “Is it not possible that Denton, whose resume indeed includes time in the Clinton White House, has a mind of his own and is interested in running for his own reasons?”

Mr. Brummett’s locked alone in a hollowed, weathered cabinet of the past. And it doesn’t appear that he’ll find his way out anytime soon.

  1. I don’t think disliking Bill Halter is a feeling reserved solely for Clintonians. In fact, I think many people in the Democrat Party may share these sentiments.

Brummett has been gone further down the cynical has-been writer spiral for the past two years. I’m perplexed to see that Arkansans are still inclined to acknowledge his “work” on a weekly basis.

  4. Do you think that hollow, weathered cabinet smells funny inside? I’m betting it smells funny inside.

  5. [...] Mr. Brummett must have been pressed for time (had to get ready to lose some more team tennis is my guess) and had to revert to a line he used many months ago when trying to punk down “That TV woman,” as he consistently referred to Kristin Fisher of KATV’s Choose Your News. The line sucked then; still does. Jealousy also abides in the hollowed, weathered closet. [...]
