The post-convention electoral map

In a post below I noted that the national polls don’t mean much to me except to us all what we already know. It’s been a few months since my last post on the electoral map, so I thought I would take another look and see where things stand now that the conventions have come and gone.

States solidly for Obama: CA, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA (190 electoral votes).

States solidly for McCain: AK, AL, AZ, AR, ID, KS, KY, LA, MS, NE, OK, SC, TN, TX, UT, WV, WY (139 electoral votes)

States looking very good for Obama: NM, MN, IA, PA (43 electoral votes)

States looking very good for McCain: GA, MT, SD, MO (32 electoral votes)

Total electoral votes for Obama: 233

Total electoral votes for McCain: 171

Toss-ups: CO, FL, IN, OH, MI, NC, ND, NH, NV, VA, WI (134 electoral votes)

According to the latest polls Obama leads in: FL (+1), MI (+1), OH (+2), ND (+3), NH (+1), WI (+5) (81 electoral votes)

According to the latest polls McCain leads in: VA (+2), IN (+2), CO (+1), NC (+3), NV (+3), (53 electoral votes)
