More on the decline of the newspaper
Lance Turner, writing for his blog, compiles some interesting stories and statistics related to the decline of the newspaper business. He observes, “So newspapers are caught having to make a tricky transition. They’ve got to invest more and more editorial resources in online, but they’ve got less and less money with which to do so.”
It’s concerning to say the least that newspapers believe that cutting editorial content is a good idea. Turner points me to this report from John Morton on NPR’s “Day to Day.” Turner’s question is spot on: “how do you sell advertising around a news product that’s diminished or, just as likely, doesn’t even exist?”
Here are some of my thoughts on the future of the newspaper business.
